Whoever decided that champagne should be served in a tower instead of a glass deserves a little appreciation. 😄

A champagne tower at your wedding? Slightly chaotic, a little unpredictable, and definitely more fun than simply raising a glass.

And honestly, watching these two pour champagne at Son Burguet in Mallorca, I was just hoping the whole thing would stay standing long enough for me to get the photos. 😂

Because sometimes the best wedding moments come with a little bit of suspense.

Manche Hochzeiten bleiben einfach ein bisschen länger im Kopf und im Herzen.

(DE) Schon beim Engagement Shooting mit Laure & Fabian habe ich gemerkt: Hier stimmt die Chemie einfach. Und als dann endlich ihre Hochzeit in der Königshof Festscheune in Bielefeld da war, hat es sich weniger nach Arbeit und mehr danach angefühlt, zwei Menschen zu begleiten, die ich wirklich ins Herz geschlossen habe. Die beiden sind einfach unglaublich liebe Menschen und ich glaube, diese Hochzeit werde ich so schnell nicht vergessen. Danke für euer Vertrauen, Ihr Zwei.

What do you actually photograph during the getting ready?

My couples ask me this surprisingly often. Because at first, it might not seem like that much is happening. You’re getting dressed, hair and makeup are being finished, and at some point, you leave for the ceremony. But there’s so much more to those hours. I photograph:

- Your stationery, rings, jewellery, shoes, perfume and all those little things you chose so carefully for this day.
- Your dress before you put it on.
- The final touches of your makeup.
- Your best friend helping you get dressed.
- A glass of champagne somewhere in between.
- The nerves slowly starting to appear.
- Your parents walking into the room.
- A hug, a nervous laugh, or that quiet second when you look at yourself in the mirror and suddenly realize: I’m actually getting married today.
- And once everything is ready, there’s usually a little time for a few quiet portraits too.

That’s why getting ready never feels like simply the beginning of a wedding story to me. These are your last few hours before everything changes, filled with tiny moments you might not even notice while they’re happening. And I think they deserve to be remembered, too.

Where editorial meets real moments.

There’s a part of every couple session where I like to slow things down and be a little more intentional. To play with composition, movement and light. To create a few portraits that feel more editorial, without asking you to become someone you’re not in front of my camera. And then, somewhere in between, I stop directing. You start talking, laughing, walking or forgetting that I’m there at all. And this is when the photographs feel completely different. That mix is probably what I love most about couple sessions. Creating something beautiful and intentional, while still leaving enough space for the unplanned moments to find their way in.

Emily and Sebastian gave me plenty of both during their shoot near Frankfurt. Do you feel more drawn to the editorial portraits or the little moments that happen in between?

What does a relaxed 10-hour wedding day actually look like?

Ten hours might sound like a lot, but on a wedding day they somehow disappear faster than you expect. And for me, the perfect timeline isn’t about squeezing as much as possible into those hours. It’s about leaving enough space to actually feel them.

I would start with around 1.5 hours of getting ready. Enough time for the little details, the nervous excitement, your closest people being around you and those quiet minutes before everything suddenly becomes very real.

Then it’s time for the ceremony - usually around an hour including arrivals, hugs and that wonderful rush of congratulations afterwards.
The next 1.5–2 hours belong to your people. Champagne, canapés, family photos, conversations and all those moments you never could have planned.

Somewhere in between, I would steal you away for 30–45 minutes of couple time. Not because we need hundreds of portraits, but because having a little pocket of time just for the two of you can feel surprisingly good after being surrounded by people all day.

Then comes dinner. Take your time. Listen to the speeches, eat the food you spent months choosing and look around the table every now and then. These are your people, all in one place, for you.

By then, ties are getting looser, shoes are coming off and someone is already waiting impatiently for the dance floor. And that’s exactly where I love to end those ten hours: right in the middle of the party, when nobody cares about the camera anymore and the wedding has become wonderfully, joyfully messy. 🥂

The perfect timeline will look different for every couple, but I will always choose a little more breathing room over a day that feels like one long checklist.

They already hold a certain kind of quiet - the space, the light, the feeling of arriving somewhere that makes everything slow down for a moment.
For destination weddings and elopements, I believe the location should never be just a backdrop. It should feel like part of the story.
